The work of Gabriel Ferrater (or Biel, as he was called in his hometown) draws directly from the experiences of his childhood and adolescence. It was a world in transition between the First and Second World Wars, and with the Civil War as a backdrop. And, for a boy like Biel, it was a world of debauchery, hope and terrible moments that would end up making him one of the most surprising literary figures of his generation.
